Ed Austin was born in 1926 in Shenandoah, Virginia. He received a B.A. in 1948, an M.Ed. in 1952 from Duke University, and a J.D. from the University of Florida in 1959. Mr. Austin served as Public Defender for the Fourth Judicial Circuit from 1963 to 1968, as State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit from 1969 to 1972 and from 1974 to 1991, and as Mayor of Jacksonville, from 1991 to 1995.
